PROJECT BACKGROUND

Battery performance testing for a brighter future

Before installing any kind of new technology in your business, home or community, you need to know it will perform – and stand the test of time. Manufacturers of lithium-ion batteries claim they are more efficient, last longer and take up less space than traditional lead-acid batteries. But as yet there is no widely available, independent data to support these claims. That’s why ITP Renewables is leading the way with this world-first lithium battery comparison test site, backed and funded by the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA).

Compare unbiased real-time battery performance data

Our battery performance testing takes place in a climate controlled building at the Canberra Institute of Technology, and will run for three years. The eight batteries selected include six lithium-ion batteries, one conventional lead acid battery and one advanced lead battery. These batteries were shortlisted because they are commercially available, cover a spectrum of prices and chemistry variants, and can be controlled by one central battery management system.
